Fall Festival Fun Saturday in Saguache
This Saturday, Sept. 17 the Otto Mears Park will come alive with the sights and sounds of autumn at the 23rd Annual Fall Festival in Saguache. Sponsored by the Saguache Chamber of Commerce, the yearly occasion celebrates the harvest season with some good food, beautiful hand made quilts and a variety of vendors sure to have something to make you take out your wallet!
The day kicks off at 7 a.m. with the Saguache County Museum serving up some of their famous hot cakes and sausage, including beverage for only $5. And what better way to work off some of those early morning calories than with the Fall Colors Run/Walk. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. in the Community Building at the park, with a start time of 8 a.m.
And while you’re in the Community Building be sure to take in the beautiful design work being presented by the Saguache Sagebrush Quilters. There will also be a silent auction inside which is the primary fundraiser for the chamber to support their many activities. Come and find some treasures! From there, head on out to cruise the park and shop the vendors, offering a variety of wares from food, to jewelry to handcrafted artwork.
Live music will also be offered throughout the day starting at 9:30 a.m. Get ready to be entertained by some of the best acts around from the Seat of The Pants String Band to Daniel Peden on bagpipes, The Roadrunners, Cheap Therapy, all culminating with a closing performance by Kicker.
But the performances don’t stop there, so be prepared to be wowed by the Crestone Love Tribe, a group of African tribal dancers. Then make sure the kids are at the park, starting at noon to see the Salida Circus performers offering face painting, stilt walkers, a magician and balloon clown. In addition, the Pitkin Avenue Baptist Church will host children’s activities including a bouncy house and free treats. The church is located across the street from the park on Pitkin Ave
Of course, all this good fun is sure to build up an appetite and the Saguache Volunteer Fire Department has got you covered. The crew will be selling roasted hatch chili with tortillas on Saturday. Festival goers can also purchase some chilies from fire department. Medium, mild and hot will be available at $15 for a ½ bushel, or $30 a bushel. Pre-orders may be made by calling: Chris Pacheco at 719-221-3762, or Trevor Ward at 719-849-0527. Come and support your local volunteers!
At 3:30 p.m. the chamber will announce the winners of the silent auction, as well as hold the drawing for a beautiful handmade quilt. So come and celebrate fall this Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Saguache Fall Festival! See you at the park!
