Meeting About Ballot Issue 1A – Sales Tax Increase
At 6 p.m. in Saguache Today there will be a public forum held on the “Public Safety Sales Tax for Law Enforcement.” Residents are invited to attend the meeting to become informed on the details regarding the “1.5% Public Safety sales tax question” that will be on the November 6, 2018 ballot. The measure will be known formally as Saguache County Ballot Issue 1A and its language will appear as follows, provided by Saguache County Clerk and Recorder Trish Gilbert, whose office oversees the local election process.
Tonight, Wednesday, Sept. 19, Speaker Ken Wilson with the Saguache County Sheriff’s Office will be leading the discussion in the Saguache Road & Bridge meeting room located at 305 3rd Street. According to event organizers, this 1.5% Public Safety sales tax is ear-marked specifically for hiring, employing, training, and equipping deputies, investigators and civilian support personnel; conducting investigations; replacing obsolete and failing equipment; and facility maintenance. The revenue generated from the sales tax will help meet statutory obligations of Saguache County to provide adequate facilities for law enforcement operations.
