Holiday Extravaganza in Saguache
It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year! And there’s plenty of merriment coming up this weekend to get you into the holiday spirit. So break out the jingle bells and round up the children, because the Holiday Season is underway in Saguache Today
On Friday, Dec. 6, friends and neighbors are invited to the Historic Ute Theater where merry-makers will be treated to the “Jolly Holiday Variety Show” beginning at 7 p.m. an incredible holiday-themed showcase of music, poem, reading, song, puppetry, skit, and dance. Ome and celebrate the holiday season by enjoying the talented expressions of your friends and family, young and old and in between! This by-donation event will help support Saguache Sharing Christmas, a community collaborative project which raises funds to provide meal boxes for families during the holidays.
Shop Til You Drop
Then on Saturday, the Annual Holiday Bazaar will be held at the Community Building from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Sponsored this year by HEART of Saguache and KV Estates and offers for sale a variety of beautiful handmade wares from local and regional craftspeople. There’s nothing like a homemade wreath or Christmas tree ornament to get you into the holiday spirit! Word on the curb is that the jolly guy himself, Santa Claus will be making an appearance from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. So grab those wish lists and get the kiddos dressed in their Christmas finery for pictures. Santa Claus is coming to town!
For shoppers not able to make the bazaar on Saturday but still want to support local craftspeople be sure to stop into The Wapiti Coffeehouse and check out their “Tiny Saguache Shop. This display case highlights 11 local merchants who make their own products ranging in price from $2 and up, with most products in the $10-$20 zone.
“When you buy local, not only do you make the gift receiver’s day, you make the day of the merchant you buy from,” stated Wapiti owner Stephanie Buechler. Thanks for supporting local artists and creative-types by showcasing and selling their goods!
And remember one way you can show your support of Saguache businesses like the Wapiti is by buying someone on your list a gift certificate from everyone’s favorite coffeehouse The Wapiti Coffeehouse is located at 319 San Juan Avenue behind Southwest Bank in downtown Saguache.
Another way that readers can support a Saguache resident looking to make some extra money while her husband is recovering from surgery is buying your holiday treats from baker Christi McConnaughhay.
“Everyone wants pie or cheesecake but doesn’t always have the time for baking,” she posted on a local community social media platform. And based on local reviews, she is known for creating some delicious homemade pies and cheesecake. From chocolate and vanilla cheesecake to a wide variety of fruit pies, Christi is ready for your holiday requests, all made to order! She may be reached via email at email@example.com or contact her on Facebook.
